Mouse suddenly requires multiple clicks to function

Question

In the past couple days my Microsoft wireless mouse has started to require multiple clicks (as many as 3 -5) to open something or get focus.  How do I fix this?  I've replaced the batteries even though there was no indication of them going bad.  I've also performed a sfc /scannow which found nothing.  What is causing this?

I had same problem for months and driving me crazy.

I was convicted that this is hardware problem and was looking to buy keyboard and mouse like everybody else.

I have Microsoft sculpt ergonomic mouse and keyboard Bluetooth

but seems that this is windows 10 bug.

there's several solutions I did

- Device manager Bluetooth device uninstall Bluetooth usb dongle drivers (if have any) and uninstall all Bluetooth drivers (my mouse and keyboard use Bluetooth connectivity) and other Bluetooth drivers could mess-up

- in mouse settings increase double click speed

- in mouse settings uncheck enhance pointer precision

- device manager show hidden devices and remove double **** mouse and keyboard drivers

• device manager go universal serial bus controllers properties and remove allow computer to turn off device to save power, in power options

- in control panel power options high performance change advanced power settings, USB settings USB selective suspend settings - Disable

That's how I solved mouse double click or not click at all problem. also a keyboard missing letters when typing.

now it is working finally.

I understand you have problem with mouse requiring multiple clicks. Did you try another mouse? Is it a Bluetooth mouse or dongle type?

Press Start then search Mouse settings

On the right side, Click Additional Mouse options

Adjust the Double Click Speed

Press Start then search Device Manager

Expand Mice and other pointing devices

Right click then uninstall the device

You can try to Enable Single-Click to Open Items

Open File Explorer, select the View tab then click Options.

Select the General tab then choose the radio box Single-click to open an item (point to select). Click Apply then OK

I'm sorry it didn't resolve the issue. Can you give me additional information's about the issue? Did you try another mouse like a usb type? or another wireless mouse? so we can determine if its Windows causing your mouse to require multiple clicks.

1. Please try to disable your Antivirus.
2. Perform a clean boot so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering

3. Try to scan your computer with a 3rd party anti-malware software
4. Try to check your CPU usage in Task manager would be a reason why you may have difficulty registering clicks

This is a windows 10 problem that came with an update in feb/march 2020  Every computer in the house is having the same problem  Does not matter what type or brand of mouse.  I have 6 PC's all running windows 10 and all of them you have to multiple click.  The problem is delayed mouse response.  Most people just click twice because they assume the first click does not work but if you wait it eventually works.  I have tried every option and sensitivity setting and noting helps
