Mouse suddenly requires multiple clicks to function

In the past couple days my Microsoft wireless mouse has started to require multiple clicks (as many as 3 -5) to open something or get focus.  How do I fix this?  I've replaced the batteries even though there was no indication of them going bad.  I've also performed a sfc /scannow which found nothing.  What is causing this?

I had same problem for months and driving me crazy.

I was convicted that this is hardware problem and was looking to buy keyboard and mouse like everybody else.

I have Microsoft sculpt ergonomic mouse and keyboard Bluetooth

but seems that this is windows 10 bug.

    there's several solutions I did

    - Device manager Bluetooth device uninstall Bluetooth usb dongle drivers (if have any) and uninstall all Bluetooth drivers (my mouse and keyboard use Bluetooth connectivity) and other Bluetooth drivers could mess-up

    - in mouse settings increase double click speed

    - in mouse settings uncheck enhance pointer precision

    - device manager show hidden devices and remove double **** mouse and keyboard drivers

    • device manager go universal serial bus controllers properties and remove allow computer to turn off device to save power, in power options

    - in control panel power options high performance change advanced power settings, USB settings USB selective suspend settings - Disable

That's how I solved mouse double click or not click at all problem. also a keyboard missing letters when typing.

    now it is working finally.

    maybe this helps to someone.

I have found the generic Microsoft Mouse Driver seems to be the problem.  I am currently using a Onn Wireless Mouse with it's own driver and my problems are 98% better.  However I also have a basic Victsing wired mouse also plugged in and it is using the standard Microsoft driver and it continues to be a problem

I'm glad to have found this thread.  Never works on the first click, sometimes takes 4-5 clicks.  Over time, that gets to be annoying and wasted productivity when every second counts.  HP X1500 mouse.

Microsoft Surface Book 2 OS 1909 (OS build 18363.1621)

Microsoft Mobile Mouse (bluetooth) Buy Surface Mobile Mouse – Microsoft Surface

    Mouse Driver 6/21/2006 10.0.18362.1 HID-compliant mouse

A few months ago, mouse is unresponsive, requires multiple clicks to get it to work. Tried updating drivers, replacing battery etc. Have to resort to surface pad and it works fine. Is there an actual solution? Seems like bluetooth interference or just bad drivers? Microsoft Hardware team???

also having this issue with a wired tecknet mouse. If I have say VLC player open on one monitor and I right click my taskbar on the other, it'll show the options as if I am right clicking on VLC player and only after clicking a few times does it then realise it is the taskbar I am clicking. So this is not a mouse problem, it is a windows problem.
