Lost Chrome access due to Microsoft update. Is there a fix?

Today's (4/16/2020) Microsoft update caused a problem.  I was no longer able to open Google Chrome.  I restored back to 4/14, but the computer wants to force the update again.  How can I either stop the update or be sure to be able to recover Chrome when I am done?

I have had the same issue with my machine after an update done last night. However, when I went to roll back the update my computer said that the update happened more than 10 days ago and the option to go back to a previous version is no longer available.

I restarted my machine many times and I can see Chrome attempt to open in background processes in task manager, but have been unable to get it to open even after several uninstall and reinstalls. I also downloaded Firefox and the same issue occurs causing it not to open. Firefox quickly disappears from background processes when I try to open it though.

Chrome is listed as my default web browser and was still on my taskbar and desktop after the update.

    Hello,

I'm your Independent Advisor for today. I know this can be frustrating, but don't worry. I'll help you figure this out.

Please answer the following questions so we have a better idea of what might be happening:

    1. Do you still have Chrome listed in Apps & Features after installing the update?
    2. Was the Chrome icon still on your desktop or taskbar after the update?

Any information you provide will greatly help us in resolving this concern.

In the meantime, please make sure to set Chrome as the default browser after the updates are installed:

    1. Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps
    2. "Under "Choose default apps", scroll down to "Web browser".
    3. Click whatever app is listed and choose Chrome as the default browser.

You can also pause the updates for 7 days by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click "Pause updates for 7 days".

Hope to hear from you soon.
