Outlook send/receive download address book error – task reported error 0x8004010F the operation failed. An object cannot be found

Hi experts,

I have 2 users of Outlook 2019 connected to Exchange 2016 on-prem server. both having issues download address book:

Outlook 2019 >send/receive menu >send/receive groups>download address book error – task reported error 0x8004010F the operation failed. An object cannot be found.

I tried a few steps - disable the add-in of Mcafee, run outlook /safe, both not working.

May I know what other things I can check? on outlook or the exchange server.

thanks for your time.

Hi @Pingatwork-4773 ,

Please also try these:

  1. Recreate the Outlook profile: https://www.msoutlookware.com/basic-tips/introduction-of-outlook-profile.html

  2. Hold CTRL and right click Outlook icon, and Test Email Autoconfiguration, use autodiscover to check if the URLs are correct.

  3. Run the first cmdlet to check if the OAB has been tagged to the database, if it's blank, that means you're using the default OAB.

    Get-MailboxDatabase | Ft Name, book

  4. Update the OAB and check if it's successfully updated, check the Event Viewer for Event 17001 and 17002, then navigate to%ExchangeInstallPath%\ClientAccess\OAB\<ObjectGuid> and check the files are recently created.

    Get-OfflineAddressBook | Update-OfflineAddressBook

  5. Restart Exchange server and then try manually downloading OAB.

  6. If that doesn't help, try creating a new OAB and assign it to the database. Use the Exchange Management Shell to create offline address books

Hi Lou,
so far i tried steps 1 to 5 not working yet, step 6 i created a new OAB and assign it to one of a user mailbox has this error,
Set-Mailbox -Identity user1@abc.com -OfflineAddressBook "Global2021 OAB"
send/receive menu>send/receive groups>download address book>
choose address book: \Default Global address list
then the process running without error message.

but for another user - user2 who has the default settings(without specific offline address book assigned), user2's outlook has a different option for the choose address book: download offline address book list. and this user2 can't download address book, error 0x8004010F the operation failed. An object cannot be found.

what can be the cause, what other steps can i try?

thanks, pingatwork

Hi @Pingatwork-4773 ,

As the new OAB could work without issues, I think you can replace the Default Offline Address Book with a new OAB with the same Addresslists:

New-OfflineAddressBook -Name OAB -AddressLists "Default Global Address List" -Isdefault $True

Also you can choose which OAB to use for your database in EAC:

This issue could be from the Default OAB side, but it would take a long time to target the root cause, replacing it could be the easiest way to solve it. Also if this couldn't work, please let me know.

Best regards,
Lou
