Hi @HaroldoStreuli-1908 ,

are you talking about a virtual machine running in Azure?

If "yes":
You don't need a Windows Server CAL. The CALs are included in the per-minute charge.

You don't need a SQL Server CAL. The CAL is included as well.

Hello Andreas,

Thank you very much for your answer, it is very helpful. and yes, I am talking about Azure. So I can create VirtualMachine with Windows Srv 2016 datacenter for example and install MS SQL Server on them and Cal are included among VM features. But The doubt I yet have is how is the best way to handle MS SQL server license. Is automatically included if I install it in the VM?

Hi @HaroldoStreuli-1908 ,

the best way to be safe with the licenses is to use a Microsoft SQL Server Image for VM deployment.

Create Virtual Machine-> See all Images -> Search for SQL and select Publisher Type = Microsoft.

Select the image based on your requirements of Windows Server version and SQL Server version.

This way you are safe regarding the licensing of Windows Server and SQL Server.
