Hello team !

I launched a cluster validation for a new windows server 2016. This server is intended to join a 2012 cluster functional level (we're planing to raise the functional level later).

But the main queestion i have is can i match the DSN version number between the 2012 R2 and 2016 ? if such thing is possible i'll be able to add the server to the cluster a later proceed to the upgrade.

Do you have any suggestion ?

Thanks in advance

    Hi,

Are you doing Cluster rolling upgrade with the guide below:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/failover-clustering/cluster-operating-system-rolling-upgrade

Do you mean you would like to join a Server 2016 node into the Server 2012R2 cluster, while running cluster validation, we have DSM version not match warning?

If yes, please try to ignore the warning and join the Server 2016 node into the Server 2012R2 cluster directly, check if we can join the Server 2016 node successfully?

If yes, we can just finish upgrading the other nodes to Server 2016 and then patch them to same update level and upgrade the cluster function level, after that, run cluster validation again, check if the warning still exists.

    Thanks for your time!
    Best Regards,
    Anne
