Witness Server for Exchange 2019 DAG

I am building a DAG that will have only two member Mailbox servers.

Can I use out Edge Transport server which is not in our domain but in our DMZ?

Or is is better to use a non-exchange server on the same subnet?

Please advise.

    You will have to use a domain-joined server.
    It can be an Exchange Server that isnt part of the DAG, but best just to use a small virtual server for just that purpose.

    it doesnt have to be on the same subnet
