event id 2159

I have an Exchange 2016 server with multiple entries of 2159 pointing to a server removed from active directory long ago. Multiple posts say to use ADSI edit, but this server is no where to be found in ADSI edit.

Here is the event:
Process edgetransport.exe (Transport) (PID=23800). Configuration object CN=OLDSERVERNAME-OLDSERVERNAME,CN=Connections,CN=DOMAIN,CN=Routing Groups,CN=First Administrative Group,CN=Administrative Groups,CN=DOMAIN,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=Domain,DC=local read from OLDSERVERNAME.DOMAIN.local failed validation and will be excluded from the result set. Set event logging level for Validation category to Expert to get additional events about each failure.

Ok, if the object in that right panel is the one you referencing, then highlight just that object and delete.

Did you check here? its not the actual server its referencing but that object in that path

Configuration object CN=OLDSERVERNAME-OLDSERVERNAME,CN=Connections,CN=DOMAIN,CN=Routing Groups,CN=First Administrative Group,CN=Administrative Groups,CN=DOMAIN,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=Domain,DC

Thank you for the tip. I did a search for CN=oldservername- and I found the exact string.
I assume I am safe to "DELETE" this string instead of changing the oldservername?

Don't delete the the entire thing, just that object that represents a send connector "OLDSERVERNAME-OLDSERVERNAME"
Be careful of course - just that object, not anything above it

Leave this be:

CN=Connections,CN=DOMAIN,CN=Routing Groups,CN=First Administrative Group,...

I suspect you have upgraded from other versions in the past, yes? That looks like an old entry for that Admin group.

You are correct. They have had OnPrem before I was here. We upgraded, and I believe they upgraded at least once before.

So for some reason the only way I can find the entry is by doing a query. This time instead of searching for old server, I searched for Connections:
Now I have:
CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=local
CN=Connections (blank)
CN=Connections CN=oldserver, msExchRoutingGroupConnector
CN= Connections that make sense
I ma guessing I am ok to delete the middle line, and possibly the first blank line

Can you post a picture of that? The entry you want to delete should be on the right side adsiedit menu pane

The top line is blank, the bottom one looks correct

Hi @BlueSkyDarren-1519

but this server is no where to be found in ADSI edit

By this, do you mean the object mentioned in the event is not visible when you check the path via ADSI edit?

CN=OLDSERVERNAME-OLDSERVERNAME,CN=Connections,CN=DOMAIN,CN=Routing Groups,CN=First Administrative Group,CN=Administrative Groups,CN=DOMAIN,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=Domain,DC=local

As has been stated by Andy, could you remove all personal information involved and then share a screenshot of the entry "CN=Connections CN=oldserver, msExchRoutingGroupConnector" so that we can understand better about the situation?
