Architecting Windows NTP server

I want to design NTP servers for a particular domain. My questions are

  1. Will the NTP servers in stratum-0 part of domain.

  2. For high availability, do we have to configure them in Windows Cluster

  3. Should NTP servers be put behind the load balancers

  4. For other trusted domains, do we have to put other NTP servers.

  5. If we have 3 BTP server, how do sync happen from clients.
     a. Will it go to first server then to next or how does it work

Hello @DineshVishe-3936,

Thank you for posting here.

Here are the answers for your references.

1.Will the NTP servers in stratum-0 part of domain.
The NTP servers will be in stratum-1 part of domain.

2.For high availability, do we have to configure them in Windows Cluster.
I am sorry, I do not much about Windows Cluster (I mainly focus on the issue or problem about AD DS).
We can configure multiple NTP servers for high availability.

3.Should NTP servers be put behind the load balancers.
I am sorry, I do not much about the load balancers.

4.For other trusted domains, do we have to put other NTP servers.
If it is parent --child domain, tree-root domain, we only need to configure NTP server for PDC in the root domain.

5.If we have 3 BTP server, how do sync happen from clients.
 a. Will it go to first server then to next or how does it work
I am sorry, would you please tell us what BTP is?

Hope the information above is helpful.

Should you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

It is a type , please read it as NTP and not BTP. Can I configure 3 NTP server for 1 client. What is sequence of synchronization.

Hello @DineshVishe-3936,

Thank you for your update.

Can I configure 3 NTP server for 1 client. What is sequence of synchronization.
A: Yes, you can.
It will use first one, if the first one is unavailable, it will use the second one; if the first one and the second one are all unavailable, it will use the third one.
