Windows can't change bios time

Question

I've started to notice that the computer clock has slowly fallen behind about a few minutes. When I correct the clock (in Windows 7), manually or against a time server, the clock corrects. However, when I restart the computer, going straight into BIOS, I notice that the clock changes do not save to BIOS, and when I boot back to Windows, the time is of course, still wrong.

When I change the time directly in BIOS, the changes persist and the clock in Windows is corrected.

I am in Toronto, ON and with daylight savings time, local time is -4 UTC. This computer dual-boots Ubuntu. Windows is configured through the registry to store UTC time in BIOS instead of local time.

Also, Ubuntu can change the system clock fine.

Has anybody heard about this problem.

I'm running Windows 7, with a Gigabyte GA-H77M-D3H motherboard, a Intel Core i7-3770, 16GB of Kingston RAM, and a GeForce GTX 680.

You have to set the time in the BIOS first then save settings. Not the other way round. Windows relies on the time in the BIOS to be correct. Not the other way round

If you have set the time in the BIOS correctly, and it keeps losing time in windows, the CMOS battery maybe flat. Replace it. Its the little round battery on the mobo

The BIOS has nothing to do with windows, so even if you change the time in windows (without changing the time in the BIOS), nothing will change in the BIOS

As I know, The time changed in windows will be synced to BIOS by Windows Sp1 .

In normal operation, adjusting the time manually in Windows will update the time in BIOS.

The bios loses time in windows because Windows which is supposed to synchronize the clock with time servers is unable to update the time. Like all clocks, over time, the clock on a computer is prone to error.
