encountered an error during import - validation errors - configuration file

Hi,

I've exported a DC VM from a Hyper V 2012 server which I'm trying to restore on a new server running 2019 Server Essentials.

When importing the VM, I get the following error:

Hyper-V encountered an error during the import operation

DC-Name could not be realized due to validation errors.

DC-Name could not be realized due to errors in its configuration file which could not be resolved. (Virtual machine ID ...)

Here's a little more information on the situation.

The original host will not boot due to a corrupt OS. Trying to restore this VM on a new host using a recent manual export. The exported folder resides locally on the new host.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Eddy

    Hi,

    Thank you for your posting!

Based on your descriptions, I suppose you can just copy your VHD file to your new server, and restore your VM by creating a new VM with new OS file system, you need to choose "use an existing VHD" when you create your VM:

So you can have your VM running on the new server without exportng or importing.

    Thank you for your time!

    Best regards
    Joan
