what is the meaning of (There are pending changes in your queries that haven't been applied)

I was creating hierarchy in a table and when I wanted to add a description, the message popped up. I want to know what does it mean if I choose to apply or discard changes? note that I usually click save to keep my latest work from lost!

Usually this means that you've made some changes to your Power Query queries since the last time you refreshed your report data. So PBIDesktop displays a warning to let you know the queries and the data in your model may be out of sync.
