Bluetooth keeps re-connecting my airpods...

To whom it may concern,

I've always had so many issues with bluetooth on windows, but this recent one is extremely irritating. The airpods on my windows 10 bluetooth keeps wanting to auto connect to my PC. Every time I connect it to my mac, it just automatically decides to connect itself back to my pc 30 seconds later. The only way of stopping this is by disconnecting the airpods manually on my pc before connecting to my laptop or phone. If the airpods are connected to the pc, and I then decide I want to connect it to something else, I always have to disconnect it on my pc first. Why does windows have priority over this device as appose to my phone or macbook? Rebooting my laptop also automatically connects the airpods without asking. You'd think that connecting the airpods to another device would automatically disable it on the previous device.

I just searched for this issue myself and came across this post on Reddit. This seems to have corrected my issues I was having with one or both disconnecting.

I was having issues with my AirPods dropping connection from my Surface Pro 4 if there was no audio playing, which is a fine idea, but the timer was for only like 10 seconds. This was incredibly annoying, so I found a quick fix.

For keeping AirPods connected indefinitely to a Windows 10 device:

1. Go to Device Manager
2. In the 'devices by type' view, open the Human Interface Devices
3. Scroll until you find 2 AirPods entries:
   • (Name) AirPods Audio/Video Remote Control HID
   • (Name) AirPods Hands-Free Call Control HID
4. For each of the devices, right click and choose Properties
5. Go to Power Management tab
6. Uncheck the 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' box.
7. Click OK

There are probably other workarounds, but this is how I did it. Share any other useful info you have below. i.e. Can the device shutoff timer be changed?

Update: It is not indefinite. I think the AirPods decide when to turn off after not being in use, rather than Windows deciding to do it. Either way, it is still a huge improvement IMO.

Update 2: One more update! I think I've got it... you also have to repeat steps 4-6 for both of the "Bluetooth Low Energy GATT compliant HID device" as well. (Jeremy_AG insight, mine was named "Bluetooth HID Device")

The "answer" doesn't address the question. The user asked about Windows forcibly reconnecting the Airpods when they're connected to another device. This has nothing to do with Airpods losing connection.

OP: As far as I can tell your only options are to unpair your Airpods or turn off Bluetooth. Unfortunately this is a bug that probably isn't on Microsoft's priority list. I'm frustrated as well.

As far as I know, there is no way to fix this. It is Windows 10 issue.

Windows 10 must have configuration option to not to force the connection in Settings > Devices interface. For each individual device!

On my new notebook I can't set bluetooth to shutdown during Sleep (Modern Standby). So, my CLOSED SLEEPING notebook "steal" AirPods connection from my iPhone! This driving me crazy! I have to open the lid, disconnect AirPods and close the lid! Every time!

I am in the same boat. There are no airpods  option. This is super annoying.
