Is there a practical limit to the number of resources that can be monitored with a single Application Insights resource?

To simplify querying the logs (for making performance improvements) we started consolidating our per-app Application Insights resources into combined ones some time ago. The biggest one now tracks 90+ app services running .NET.

It looks like the Azure Portal has some trouble working with that many apps in a single Application Insights resource, because I've noticed trouble with rendering some pages, especially the "Roles" tab on the "Performance" page. Both Firefox and Chrome often show warnings about slow scripts when opening that tab or changing the time range ("A web page is slowing down your browser." and "Page Unresponsive")

Since this doesn't happen on App Insights resources with only a few resources there must be some number at which this starts occurring. So:

  1. What is the max number of resources that can be tracked in a single Application Insights resource?
  2. Can the Azure Portal or Application Insights teams maybe fix this problem?

@Frank van Eykelen We really appreciate you taking time to work with our support team on this issue. At this point the initial analysis was to validate if you were hitting the throttling limit , but seems that you were not hitting that limit. However unfortunately we couldn't repro the issue consistently to further troubleshoot , so closed the issue for now. Please do circle back to us if you see any issue in future, will be happy to work with you to fix the issue. Thanks again.

Sharing this information for other customers who might get into similar issue. In case you are hitting the throttling limit 32,000 events/second you would see warning message on this and if you can reach out to our support team , they can further help you on this. Thanks
