Good day ! I am an independent adviser here to help you!

Best option here is to use a program like VLC (free, no adware, malware, etc) to play mov files and I'd also recommend it for most audio files.

There are also apps in the app store.

Quicktime may also work for mov files, at least it should.

    VLC: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

    QuickTime: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL837?locale=en_US

Yes they are more expensive yet they do not try and get business by snooping on the customer or forcing a customer to have an outlook.com account!!

Right you are! Apple requires an iCloud account.

From the New York Times: Apple Was Slow to Act on FaceTime Bug That Allows Spying on iPhones (January 29, 2019)

"The bug, and Apple’s slow response to patching it, have renewed concerns about the company’s commitment to security, even though it regularly advertises its bug reward program and boasts about the safety of its products."

That's not surprising. I don't know of any media player that can play every video format.

And in this case - .mov is an Apple format - when was the last time that Microsoft and Apple co-operated so that each company's media formats worked perfectly on the other company's software?

But this is no big deal at all. Just do what we do: Open a search engine and find out what media players play the .mov format. You'll have more choices than you'll know what to do with.
