Hi,

Please could someone assist, we suddenly started getting these errors from our techs trying to do Azure AD joins, it all still worked in the morning but then we started receiving messages about this from different areas/regions in our company.

Hi @Leon Taljaard , please repeat these steps and let me know if it fixes the issue:

    1. Sign in to Azure portal.
    2. Browse the directory AADJ is performed.
    3. Click on "Applications" and browse "Microsoft Intune"
    4. Click on Configure.
    5. Under the option "manage devices for these users" Select "NONE"
    6. If you want to keep the option ALL then make sure the user account used to attempt AADJ has Azure Premium and Microsoft Intune License.

The issue can also occur if the device is already registered and the device object still exists in Azure AD.

Please let me know if this helps. If so, please mark the answer as "Verified" so other users may reference it. If not, please let me know and I'll continue looking for a solution.

    Best,
    James

I'm having the same exact issue on Windows 11. The account being used is assigned the Microsoft 365 E3 license which as Intune and Azure Active Directory Premium P1.

It's worth noting that the device in question was previously Azure AD joined on Windows 10. It was wiped with a fresh install of Windows 11. The device has been inactive for at least 6 months, and I removed stale devices from Azure AD which haven't checked in for 6 months.

I am having this exact same problem, albeit with error code 801901f4. This seems to have started week or two ago and occurs both during OOBE and if trying to join a device later on through work/education account settings.

    Hello together,

Possible problem could be the MFA setup.

It looks like it was due to a previous failed event for the device that needed to be cleared from the audit log. Why this would hose a domain join seems odd, it's an error, just log it and let us try again.....
