Hyper-V Server 2019 rebooting

I have two different Server 2019 VMs that are rebooting at 7:00 AM and noon. I checked task scheduler and found vssadmin was trying to create a shadow copy. If I disable those triggers the crash and reboots go away. Anyone see this before?

Hi,

According to your description, seems the issue is related to scheduled backup.

I would like to check what is the backup tool do you use, windows server backup or others?

Besides, also check the checkpoints type, if we use "Production checkpoints", change it to "Standard checkpoints", vice versa.

What's more, please check if the VM is updated, if not, please install the latest windows update on the VM.

Thanks for your time!
Best Regards,
Anne

I've checked further and it looks like the data drive on the VM fileserver has Shadow Copy turned on for 7:00 am and noon. They currently show as disabled since I disabled the task in the scheduler.

The same was true for another VM fileserver at a different location that exhibited the same behavior; creating a crash dump at these two times causing a reboot of the VM. One is server 2016, the other server 2019. Neither have local backups running, the backups are being run using Veeam on the Hyper-V host server.

I can't be the only one seeing this, started a couple weeks ago.

Yes, the fix is to turn off Shadow Copy on the drive containing the HyperV image and disable the Shadow Copy task in Task Scheduler. I noticed this same problem just started happening again after a recent update. It's happening on Server 2012r2 as well.
