AD and DNS Servers

Can Acitive Directory be configured using a DNS server other than a Windows DNS? If so, can you provide any documentation or instructions?

I read the article. Can you use MS clients with another Directory service OR can you remove a MS DNS altogether within an area and fully replace with another DNS server within an area with some clients and applications that are currently using AD or MS DNS?
