    Hi Graspon

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this . . .

You cannot disable McAfee and enable Defender, McAfee is so deep rooted in Windows that is not possible to do, the only option would be to uninstall McAfee using the MCPR tool available on their website, then restart and Defender will then be active. You can if you wish later, re-install McAfee if you want to . . .

The correct way to remove McAfee is from within its program group Uninstall shortcut in Start Menu > All Programs or by using Apps & features in Windows 10 or Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs) in Control Panel, then to reboot when done and run the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR). In most cases, using the uninstaller of the software not only removes it more effectively, but it also restores many changed configuration settings.

    .

Note: Sometimes the uninstall from Control Panel works more effectively if you first stop and disable the program's service (and associated processes in Task Manager) or perform the removal in safe mode so there are less processes which can interfere with the uninstallation.
