I think the fact that I've not added any passkeys makes the fact that I'm asked to use one while logging in worse.
Is there a way to disable passkeys in Windows 11?
I've been using a security key (Yubikiey) for years as 2FA on several accounts. It used to work very easily, I'd type in my credentials, then simply touch the Yubikey and be logged in. Now for about a month, since a Windows update, after entering my credentials I'm prompted whether I want to use a mobile device or a security key, I need to click 'security key' and then click 'Next' before touching my Yubikey. Is there any way to have my computer or web browser default to security key or is there a way to disable passkey (mobile device) entirely?

2024-04-04T08:56:41+00:00 I personally use YubiKeys as Security Keys (specifically FIDO2, which is also a modern Industry standard).
Not only for web browsing but also for SSH remote access.
Being prompted for a Passkey while I'll never opt for one (in defavor of FIDO2) is a genuine annoyance.

2024-09-26T02:18:03+00:00 Hey, your attitude is showing. I'm 65 and very tech savvy. I just don't want this garbage passkey ****. I'll just log in with my password, thank you. Life is complicated enough, and I don't want Microsoft or any company hording my passwords. Got that. I consider Microsoft a security breech. I don't plan kicking the bucket any time soon. All I want to do is set up my e-mail accounts on my computer, so I can have access with my password. I don't need Microsoft turning logging into my e-mails into a shlt show.

2024-07-22T21:38:49+00:00 Microsoft: I have a password, and PIN. I do not need yet another one on top of both of those.
I was opted into this without my knowledge, or consent.
I have a pretty solid understanding of my operating system, and the security around it.
I do not understand why I suddenly am being forced to use, and constantly asked about passkeys, when I have not opted into them or set them up.
If I don't understand why I am being forced to use these, or why they are required NO ONE OVER THE AGE OF 50 WILL.Did anyone at Microsoft stop to think about how these should be explained and implemented if we are ALL going to be forced into using them?
You guys are going to spend so much more supporting customers who are now locked out of their accounts because you guys rammed a change through that no one wants or needs.
I did not ask for passkeys, I do not want passkeys, stop forcing me to use passkeys.I have deleted the passkeys from my settings, and now my Edge logins have a discrepancy, because they are demanding passkeys that no longer exist.
For some reason, Windows is not allowing me to delete my Microsoft Passkey, because now that is required to sign in to my computer. I already have a PIN, a password, a fingerprint, and my face to sign in to my computer. Why is that all not good enough? Why do I need to add yet another method?
Is the only option logging out of my Microsoft Account and making it a local account to opt out of passkeys?
