I am faced with USB drive is not accessible, a device which does not exist was specified

The way I corrected this issue was to open the HDD's properties, go to the security tab, click on the advanced button, change ownership to yourself, give yourself full access, click ok, make sure you have full access on the General tab within the properties as well. then tah dah issue is gone forever...

Hi,

I have tried the steps above, but I didn't find any 'security' tab on my usb drive shown to be me as inaccessible.

I also run CHKDSK Command:

Command Prompt

Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.18362.959]

(c) 2019 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>chkdsk d: /f /r /x

Cannot open volume for direct access.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>

What I have done with my USB drive before I am having this issue are as follows:

  1. I I plugged it into  the Windows 10 laptop, and copied some files onto it.(Windows 7 desktop isn't mine)
  2. I then plugged it into the Windows 7 desktop, and I printed some files.
  3. I then removed it from the Windows 7 desktop without 'safely removing it'.
  4. Whenever I am now plugging it into  my Windows 10 laptop, I see this error.

I think it is the drive itself which is having an issue since I tried to plug it into other ports, but it is not now working.

I tried plugging other usb drives to my laptop's port, and they are all detected well by Windows 10.

My device having the issue is a removal flash drive, and isn't a hard disk drive.

    Hi,

try command chkdsk d: /r /scan and see if there will be errors found.

    Hi,

try command chkdsk d: /r /scan and see if there will be errors found.

I've run it, and this is the result.

    Dear Louie,

Why do you not remark on the drive I am having an issue with is a USB flash drive.

Your link only gives steps of troubleshooting a USB external hard drive.

Should I proceed with them anyway?

I tried this  "Method 5: Disable USB selective suspend setting", but it didn't make any difference.

Once my flash drive is being plugged into a USB port, Windows 10 tells me this:

Then Windows 10 tells me this after a while:
