LOL no, you don't need to do a clean install to fix an update problem.
From what I've read, this issue is usually resolved by disconnecting the affected PC from the internet and running the update offline.

I am having trouble getting windows 10 to update to version 2004 from version 1909
My PC is a custom build with the highest end components like I9 9900k and RTX 2080ti Kingpin and Maximus XI Formula motherboard.
The error reads This PC can’t be upgraded to Windows 10.
Your PC settings aren't supported yet on this version of Windows 10. Microsoft is working to support your settings soon. No action is needed. Windows Update will offer this version of Windows 10 automatically when these settings are supported.

No I will not do another clean install.
I will just skip this troubled Windows 10 version 2004 and wait for the next to arrive.
I'm sorry about that, Radbanshee.
In this case, other than wait for the update to come automatically, and since manually update didn't work, I think you'd have to do a clean install (in my personal opinion, that's even better, because many users are facing problems while updating - however, it takes a little bit of work).
That would require the creation of a DVD or memory stick with the Windows installation program. And you would also need to back up all your files. Also, all third party software will need to be reinstalled.
Would you like to try that? If so, I can help you out with the steps, just let me know!

Hi,
We have known the update is blocked is being shown this message.
The block is in place because of various compatibility issues with numerous systems and hardware configurations.
If you’ve received this banner, here is what you can do for Windows Update to show the feature update available notification:
1.Update your hardware drivers
2.Disable Core Isolation by going to Settings > Windows Security > Open Windows Security > Devie Security > Core isolation details.
3.Keep checking Windows 10 2004 release information page for mitigations and resolutions for Known issues.
Although people report that upgrading offline works, but we do not recommend the same.
Okey dokey, it's better to wait for those bugs to be fixed ;)
Let me know in case you chance you mind.
Have a good day!
