How can I prevent automatic updating a specific driver in Windows 10 Home?

Hello to everybody,

I have Realtek 8822CE wireless adapter installed in my Lenovo IdeaPad Laptop running Windows 10 Home, build 10.0.19042. I'm not able to connect to my home WiFi network with two latest versions of Realtek drivers (2024.0.8.129 of 04.11.2020 is the latest one). However, once these two versions are consequently uninstalled and I roll back to generic Microsoft 2024.08.108, 05.06.2019 driver, everything is just fine. Therefore, I'd like to prevent updating drivers for this specific device and just left MS driver for good.

How can I  prevent automatic updating a specific driver in Windows 10 Home, leaving other updates as usual if policy editor is not available in Win 10 Home edition?

Thank you for attention,

Kind regards,

Igor

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you’re facing issues when connecting to internet after installing network driver updates. I will certainly help you with this.

Since the older drivers are working fine, let’s try disabling automatic driver updates and see if that helps.

    1. Press Windows + S keys together to open Search
    2. Now type Device installation settings
    3. Click on Change Device installation settings and then select the option No (your device might not work as expected)
    4. Now click on Save Changes

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

    Dear Prakhar,

thank you very much for this recommendation. It works.  Actually, I was looking for a little bit different solution - to ban the updates for a single driver while leaving open automatic updates for other drivers.  It is like the setting "lock version" in Linuх Synaptic Package Manager for a specific package/firmware.  You just confirmed that it is not straightforward in Win 10 Home unless you are going to use regedit.

    Thanks a lot,

    Kind regards,

    Igor
