Disable External Microphone

Hi everyone,

I've a set of earbuds that have its microphone broken. Having a four-pin connector, as soon as I connect them to my laptop windows recognizes it as an external microphone.

Not being and USB microphone on devices it is not recognized as an "Additional Device" it is simply is set as the normal Microphone using the Conexant ISST Audio driver.

My question is, is it possible to use these set of earbuds and use the internal microphone? Or will it always recognize it as an external microphone?

Thanks

Hi, I'm Benedict, an Independent Advisor. I'm here to help you.

Have you already tried to disable External microphone and set the internal microphone (usually recognized as Microphone array) as Default device in Sounds > Recording tab while your earbuds are connected? If not, please do so or to do this:

    • Right-click on Speaker icon in the right-side of your taskbar and select Sounds.
    • Click Recording tab.
    • Right-click on External microphone and select Disable.
    • If the built-in microphone or microphone array is not set automatically as default device then right-click on it and select Set as Default Device. Right-click on it again and select Set as Default Communication Device.

    Please see if that helps.

    Regards,

    Benedict P.

    Hi Benedict,

    Thank you for your answer.

Yes, I've tried that already, however when I connect my earbuds the recording devices tab remains unchanged, meaning I keep only seeing the Microphone Array as default device:

I've only understood that the Mic changes from Internal to External due to Bang & Olufsen Audio controller:

    Thanks,

Okay, I see. Perhaps disabling the Bang & Olufsen Audio controller will prevent your system from changing your microphone to external when earbuds are connected. Try to check in Task Manager > Startup tab if Bang & Olufsen Audio controller or any related to it is listed there and if so, try disabling it by right-clicking on it and select Disable.

Hi Benedict, thank you for your time. I've tried disabling the Bang & Olufsen Audio controller and retried connecting the earbuds and I keep having the same problem.

Have you also tried to restart your PC in order to make the change you made in the Task manager > Startup take effect?
