RDP session: local user logs off when the remote connection starts?

I've just tried and, when I start a remote desktop session, the local user is logged out...

it seems a mutually exclusive behavior: only one user can be logged in at a time (indeed, when the local user logs in, the RDP is suddenly closed)

is this the correct behavior?
is there a way to avoid the logoff of the local user when RDP session starts?

thanks

    HI AleMadama-9897

1."they said me that RDP only runs under Windows PRO but NOT under windows HOME...is it?"
Yes. There is difference between win10(pro) and win10(home)about remote desktop function.

2."the PRO edition is mandatory only for the HOST or also for the clients?"
I assume that you are in below condition.
    client pc is win10(home)
    server pc is win10(pro)

I think we can remote access from win10(home) to win10(pro/enterprise) by using mstsc.exe(remote desktop connection application), but we can't remote access from win10((pro/enterprise) to win10(home) by using mstsc.exe, because remote desktop function is not available on win10(home) like below picture. This behavior is by design.

    HI AleMadama-9897

Could you please enter winver in command prompt on remote computer and look the OS version and OS version number? [for example windows 10 enterprise 1809 (OS build 17763.316)]

    1.is this the correct behavior?
in general, there will be below conditions:
    condition1:
if the OS version of remote pc is win10 pro/enterprise/home (not win10(enterprise for virtual desktop)), the answer is yes, this behavior is by design.

    condition2:
if the OS version of remote pc is windows server (2003 and above), by default there will be 2 concurrent sessions for you.
(for example, one is local session, the other is remote session. Or one is remote session, the other is remote session)

    condition3:
if the OS version of remote pc is windows server (2003 and above),meanwhile, your server has been installed "remote desktop session host" role, there will be more than 2 concurrent sessions for you.
(for example, one is local session or more, the others are remote session. Or all are local sessions; Or all are remote sessions)

2.is there a way to avoid the logoff of the local user when RDP session starts?
If your condition match condition 1, since this behavior is by design, there is no way to change it. Any changing method may violate Mcirosoft EULA.

If your condition match condition 2 or 3, are you are using the same account to logon the remote computer for both local session and remote session? If the answer is yes, your current behavior is also by design. After you remote access the remote server, the console session of it account will be converted to remote session. I confirm this behavior in my lab.

    Hi JiaYou,
    I have win10PRO.

It's fine for me that only one user can be looged in, indeed what I was looking for is just that.

only one doubt: they said me that RDP only runs under Windows PRO but NOT under windows HOME...is it?

the PRO edition is mandatory only for the HOST or also for the clients?

    many thanks!
    Ale

    Hi JiaYou,
yes I should connect from win10HOME to win10PRO!

    excellent, then it is possible!

I will try that mstsc.exe application and let you know!

    thanks!!!!
