Failed update KB5058379

Got problems with Windows 10 cumulative updates since January 2025. Update is downloaded, installed, but after reboot I got rollback from 98% with same error each time - 0x800f0922.
What I'd tried already:

  1. dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth - no effect
  2. SFC /scannow - no effect
  3. Expanded and rebuilt BCD - no effect.

I suspect there's something wrong with BCD - I recovered it after Gigabyte BIOS update messed it up - because I got this in CBS.log:

Looks like I'm missing something.

Update:
During the course of suggested actions I came to the fact, that I can't install Windows 10 from ISO. So i looked at installation logs and found out that I still got problems with EFI partition as I thought. This article helped me to fix my problem:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/cant-upgrade-to-windows-10-2h22-due-to-error/d978e658-53f5-4709-8ca4-3016cca87025

Fixed my EFI partition's ID and re-run update setup - everything works now!

    Thanks for the clarifications.

    Many factors can cause this error. To avoid a long answer, I will suggest a few procedures. If these do not work, there are other methods.

    I suggest doing the following:

    Run the Windows Update troubleshooter and try to install the update.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win...

    If it persists, rename the software distribution folders as instructed below:

    1. Open Start and type cmd, right-click on "Command Prompt", and select "Run as administrator".
    2. Run the following commands at the Command Prompt one at a time:

    net stop bits
    net stop wuauserv
    net stop cryptsvc
    ren %systemroot%\softwaredistribution softwaredistribution.bak
    ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak
    net start bits
    net start wuauserv
    net start cryptsvc

    1. After all these commands are completed, close the Command Prompt window, restart your computer, and then try to update Windows.

    If it persists, download and install the update that is having problems manually.
    Download the installation package from the link below.
    https://catalog.s.download.windowsupdate.com/d/...

    Source: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search...

    If the problem persists, please let me know, and I will provide another method. Click on the "Reply" button below my reply.

    Feel free to ask back any questions.

    Hello, I tried to use the cmd command as you suggested to fix the issue.

    However, the prompt is like this, and I'm not quite sure what to do next.

    I'm sorry that I'm using the Chinese version.

    It means “Windows Update service is not running” and “Access is denied.”

    At the same time, I also downloaded https://catalog.s.download.windowsupdate.com/d/...

    But the prompt says it has already been installed.

    Actually, KB5058379 is not installed.

    KB5058379 may not be able to install properly.

    Hi Achillues Lee,

    Please start a new thread and share your CBS logs.

    To collect the CBS logs, open admin PowerShell and run:

    GCI -Path 'c:\windows\logs\cbs\*.*', 'c:\windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log' | Compress-Archive -destination (join-path ([environment]::GetFolderPath('Desktop')) \CBS.zip)

    This creates a file named CBS.zip on your desktop. Share it on OneDrive or GoFile.io and post the link there.

    During the course of suggested actions I came to the fact, that I can't install Windows 10 from ISO. So i looked at installation logs and found out that I still got problems with EFI partition as I thought. This article helped me to fix my problem:

    Fixed my EFI partition's ID and re-run update setup - everything works now!

    I can't update to Windows 10 anymore, I have no idea why. Please help me update to Windows, I recently found out that Windows 10 will no longer be on the market, but until it is no longer on the market I need help, so I can update, please..

    @Jean Moldoveanu

    Please start a new thread by clicking Ask a new question.

    Mention the detailed problem description and the error codes you're seeing.

    And share your CBS logs. To collect the CBS logs, open admin PowerShell and run:

    GCI -Path 'c:\windows\logs\cbs\*.*', 'c:\windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log' | Compress-Archive -destination (join-path ([environment]::GetFolderPath('Desktop')) \CBS.zip)

    This creates a file named CBS.zip on your desktop. Share it on OneDrive or GoFile.io and post the link there.
