WD SN770 2TB SSD Crashes After Windows 11 24H2 Feature Update—Any Fixes?

I have a Western Digital SN770 2TB NVMe SSD, and I am experiencing Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) crashes after updating to Windows 11 24H2. The issue appears to stem from changes in Host Memory Buffer (HMB) allocation, causing system instability, boot failures, and driver malfunctions. My system either fails to boot or freezes completely. I attempted to update the SSD firmware via Western Digital Dashboard, but the problem persists. Fortunately, I had an EaseUS backup, which allowed me to restore from an image, as Windows restore consistently fails to complete successfully. Any advice on how to resolve this issue?

In my case, I updated **** my SSD with the latest version and it seemed stable. I didn’t have any issues. But to be sure and avoid problems in the future, I bought a 500 GB SSD, the Crucial P3 Plus, to install Windows on it. So now I’m using the other one as a secondary drive, and I really haven’t had any issues since.

I'm in the same situation with the SN770 2TB, and honestly, there’s probably not much we can do at the moment. It seems like the issue is caused by changes in how Windows 11 24H2 handles Host Memory Buffer (HMB), which is messing with how the SSD communicates with the system. Unless Western Digital or Microsoft release a fix or driver update that resolves the compatibility, we're stuck. For now, restoring from a backup like you did is probably the safest workaround. Let's hope they patch this soon.

Make sure the disk is partitioned correctly. Even if you're using NTFS and Dynamic. You would still have to have at least 100MB

set as MBR for Windows 11 to install correctly.
