What is the best free Antivirus software (security software)? Is Windows Security that comes with Windows 11 enough to keep my device safe? Is there any free antivirus software that is better?

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Whether you us a 3rd party anti-virus is really a personal choice.

Windows Security is a full security suite that is on a par with all the paid for 3rd party Anti-virus suites, it is highly rated.

Windows Security has many components like Defender, Ransomware Protection, Memory Integrity, Core Isolation...etc. and its Virus Definitions are updated regularly like all the 3rd party anti-virus suites to include any newly found malware on the web.

Defender is tightly integrated with Windows, it is free and will not slow down your PC like many of the 3d party anti-virus suites.

There is no universal "one size fits all" solution that works for everyone and there is no single best anti-virus.

No single product is 100% foolproof and can prevent, detect and remove all threats at any given time and there is no universal "one size fits all" solution. Security is all about layers and not depending on any one solution, technology or approach to protect yourself from cyber-criminals. The most important layer is you...the first and last line of defense. Thus, a multi-layered defense using an anti-malware and anti-exploit solution to supplement your anti-virus combined with common sense and following Best Practices for Safe Computing provides the most complete protection.

With that said, Microsoft has incorporated a number of significant improvements in Microsoft Defender Antivirus which make it competitive with other major anti-virus vendors including many paid for products. For more specific information, see my comments in Choosing an Anti-Virus Program (Post #2).
