Windows 11 updates (KB5063060 and KB5056579) keeps failing to install.

The newest updates,

2025-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5063060, error code 0x80071a91),

and

2025-04 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 24H2 for x64 (KB5056579, error code 0x80071a91)

keep failing to install. I've been having this issue even before updating my Windows from 10 to 11, which was a few months ago. I tried the solutions provided in this link: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/update-failing-to-install-on-win-11-22h2-kb5063060/6c799d96-cfce-4a04-bf7a-d9e7430eb62b, but unfortunately nothing worked.

Please look into this issue, as I think these updates are also affecting my microphone input - it just records static noise instead of my actual voice when using my pc microphone.

Microsoft needs people helping here that actually have solutions not band aides. Suggesting a clean installation of our OS to fix sloppy update releases is BS, do your BETA testing in house like you did in the golden days of Windows. It works, having been vetting and testing using "in house" resources. We are not your telemetry pool so get with the program Microsoft. Its not like you cannot afford paying your people to release software that doesn't goon computers.

I have disable bitlocker, reset/renamed the Software Distribution folder, reset winsock, manually cleaned up all windows updates files, ran sfc / scan now and DISM online. Keep getting the same trash error 0x800f0982 regardless. Fix this trash please.

    Regards,

    SA

I have the same issue, however only with KB5063060. I was able to install KB5054979 separately.

Regarding KB5063060 I've tried every "fix" online (including the ones listed by yourself) including several windows 11 clean instalations, even changed some of the instalation choices just in case each time. Nothing works, this update is probably the worst ever in my experience. After several days of trying to install the update (after the first clean install) I was warned in the "check for updates" section to repair my windows or reinstall it, then after a couple of days I got a black screen, then had to clean install the second time. I got to talk to support and am waiting for the next call from their highes tier in the next few days but I'm quite pessimistic on their assistance. I don't think they know whats wrong with it. Hope this gets fixed soon cause I can't really install any software currently since I might get the black screen again.

Hi John, thanks for your reply.

I did try all the methods on the list, but none of them worked - seems like I wasn't the only one either.

I also tried installing the updates manually with the links you shared, but sadly both of them failed (screenshots attached).

It seems you are not alone as other users are also experiencing the issue of not being able to install the said updates. I recommend waiting a few days and trying to install the said updates again.
