Writing and implementing an ms excel flash-fill like function from scratch

I realize that this might not be the appropriate forum to post my query but please hear me out and help me :) ...
I recently got acquainted with the flash-fill function of MS Excel and am quite intrigued by it. I am currently learning C++ and wanted to implement a similar function from scratch in C/C++. While I tried googling the workings of this function, it only showed how to use it. Any insights?
