Windows Update keeps trying to install KB5048239 2024-11 Security update Windows 10 V22H2 for x64 based systems

Windows Update shows 0% installing and then reverts to "Your up to date" screen. I have restarted and powered my machine down but that didn't help.

There are no messages displayed about the update failing to install or installation successful. Every time that Windows Update looks for updates, this scenario plays out again.

    Gary,

Several discussions on this forum address this same issue. Microsoft has released a patch in a recent Windows update that should automatically fix it.

Specifically, Update KB5050411 (Windows Recovery Environment update for Windows 10, versions 21H2 and 22H2), released on January 14, 2025, may resolve the problem.

Please check for and install any available Windows updates to see if this resolves the issue for you.

I also have this problem on a HP Z420 workstation running Windows 10.

    Hello Gary,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community and I'll be glad to assist you today.

This could be a temporary glitch with the Windows Update Settings. You can try a few troubleshooting methods and see if it resolves the issue.

Option 1. Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter.

    • Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters. Next, under Get up and running, select Windows Update > Run the troubleshooter.
    • When the troubleshooter is finished running, restart your computer and check for the Windows updates again. If the issue persists, try the next option.

Option 2. Run System File Checker Utility scan.

    1. Run Command Prompt as Administrator.
    2. Execute the commands one by one and click enter for each command.

Note: Each command may take a few minutes to start and complete

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    Sfc /scannow

    1. After you see a message that says, "Verification 100% complete," type exit and press Enter.
    2. Restart your Computer and check for Windows updates again.

    EDITED:

It appears that the issue is widespread and likely caused by specific updates released by Microsoft. If the problem persists despite trying the suggested methods, you can consider hiding the updates, as detailed in the thread below.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and I will be happy to help you further.

    Best regards,
