An open letter to Microsoft on forced updates

STOP THEM!

Every time I receive an unwanted and forced update to my computer, my settings are changed and my computer starts malfunctioning. The latest one is one of my monitors will stop displaying and I can't move my mouse or use my keyboard. This forces me to do a hard shutdown. I have wasted literal days of my life with Microsoft "support" to block the updates so I can download and install them when, or if, I want. Yet every time after I'm done with their horrid support I am promised that all automatic updates have been stopped, just to find out another one has downloaded and will automatically install.

I don't want to hear "we really suggest installing our botched updates because it keeps your computer running smoothly despite the fact they are **** updates and make your computer worse" one more time. I don't care what the ramifications are of not installing them, that is literally not Microsoft's problem. If these updates didn't completely screw with my computer I wouldn't want them disabled.

I own my computer, not Microsoft. I decide what is installed on it, not Microsoft. If Microsoft gives all of us computers to use and upgrades the hardware free of charge, they can decide what updates are applied. Until then, take your damn updates and shove em!

I appreciate your response. All of that has been tried and I keep getting this malware from Microsoft. Sorry, that’s the only way I can describe it at this point due to the negative impacts it has on my computer. I’ve even gone into the registry numerous times and disabled windows updates yet it magically turns itself back on.

Microsoft either needs to pull its head out of its rear and properly queue their releases before they are forced on us or they need to give us full control of windows so we can decide what is installed on our property.

on top of that, they need to completely retrain every single tech-support employee they have because every single one I’ve worked with is utterly incompetent

I think I finally got the updates to stop automatically downloading and installing. All it took was an email to their compliance and legal team detailing how many times Microsoft Support has supposedly resolved the issue, and the fact I would view future forced downloads and installs as a cyber attack on my computer. I also mentioned this would have legal ramifications. The other thing I told them was, I was revoking any agreements I had previously made or accepted to allow them to do these automatic downloads.

I magically got an email the following day from tier 3 Support to resolve the issue. We are going to wait until the next update is released to see if they have actually fixed it or not. Let me know if you want the email address and I will share it here.

The issue is plain - very plain. They simply do Not fear physical retaliation. Period. nothing has changed since 1st grade. They don't care what you say. The damage is blatantly and obviously intentional. Yet we fear punishing them in a real life kind of way, because the phony justice system protects evil and punishes actual justice. Until they actually "fear" harming people's lives, this WILL continue. Period.

This is not a threat, the world isn't proper enough for that. I am simply starting the obvious that deep down everyone already knows.

Hey! I am not a Microsoft employee. Here are two ways to take back control:

    1. Set Active Hours Open Settings, go to Windows Update > Advanced Options, and adjust Active Hours. This allows you to block updates during specific times while letting them run automatically at other times.
    2. Control Updates via Group Policy (1) Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and hit Enter. (2) Navigate to **Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Manage end user experience > Configure Automatic Updates. (3) Set it to Notify for download and auto install, then apply the changes with gpupdate /force in PowerShell. This will stop automatic updates and notify you when updates are available.

When you’re ready to update, go to Settings > Windows Update, check for updates, and install them as needed. Let me know if you’d like more details!
