Iphone photos not displaying in File Explorer (win11)

When I open File Explorer to view/transfer photos (jpg format) to other folders/network drives, the photos shown may not be all that's in that particular folder. The Iphone stores photos in monthly folders and I must refresh/reconnect several times to see the latest photos. Is there some sort of cache view/update settings for viewing these folders/photos on the phone? This is for work and I do this repeatedly throughout the day.

    Dear Paul Labert (TEMA),

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I understand how frustrating it can be to repeatedly refresh or reconnect your iPhone to view the latest photos in File Explorer, especially when you rely on this process for work.

Let’s work through some troubleshooting steps to address the issue and ensure a smoother experience.

Step 1: Unlock iPhone and Trust the Computer

Before connecting your iPhone to your PC, unlock the device and leave it on the Home screen.

Upon connecting your iPhone, you should see a prompt asking if you trust this computer.

Tap Trust and enter your passcode if prompted.

Step 2: Update iTunes and Apple Drivers

Ensure you have the latest version of iTunes installed. You can download it from the Microsoft Store or the Apple website.

Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and ensure that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed.

If it’s missing, uninstall and reinstall iTunes, which includes the necessary drivers to enable proper communication between your PC and iPhone.

Step 3: Use the Photos App for Importing

Using the Photos app on Windows can improve the experience of transferring and viewing photos:

Open the Photos app from the Start menu.

Click Import in the top-right corner and select From a USB Device.

Follow the on-screen instructions to select and import photos from your iPhone.

This method ensures that Windows retrieves all the latest photos directly, bypassing potential File Explorer caching issues.

Step 4: Adjust iCloud Settings on Your iPhone

Ensure that your iPhone is storing the original photos locally and not relying on iCloud for storage:

On your iPhone, navigate to: Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Photos.

Check if iCloud Photos is enabled.

If enabled, select Download and Keep Originals to ensure all photos are accessible when connected to your PC.

Alternatively, if you use iCloud Photos, consider installing iCloud for Windows to sync your photos directly to your PC without the need for USB connections.

If the issue remains unresolved, there may be limitations in the way iOS and Windows interact. For advanced troubleshooting, I recommend contacting Apple Support for further assistance.

    Best Regards,

Martin | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
