    Hello, I'm here to help.

Where are you seeing this error?

You can try going to: https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe to download and install the Visual C runtime library. It may help.

Please feel free to reply. This is not a live chat channel and I may be in a different time zone than you. As a result, replies may be delayed and I may respond minutes to hours later.

There's an issue with the msvcp140_atomic_wait.dll file missing or being corrupted.

Try reinstalling the Visual C++ Redistributablefrom the Microsoft websiteand restart your PC.

If that doesn't work, open Command Prompt as an admin and run 'sfc /scannow' to check for any system file issues. Also, make sure your Windows is fully updated, as updates can often fix this kind of error.

Let me know if that works!

I had similar issue with opening a word file from SharePoint and was giving out this error. Installing VC and restarting helped.

    Hey guys,

Whenever I run into this problem, please check control panel and see how many instances of M365 are installed.

When this issue arises, i've noticed the machine have both M365 Apps for business and M365 Apps for enterprise installed.

I uninstall the M365 Apps for business, and the protocol error goes away.
