Error pop-up driver:ene.sys

(Edit): good news is I figured it out, amd graphics Adrenalin edition was out of date and I just uninstalled and reinstalled the software that scans for compatibility and updates and it fixed my driver pop up. Bad news is my pc is now crashing for no reason periodically which it was doing before I messed with files and such so Prolly just a silly thing I overlooked though. Tbd

Original: Every time i start up my PC an error message stating that driver:ene.sys is having an issue loading and that I will need to adjust some security some settings. the solutions i found was rename or delete the file, turn off memory integrity which leaves my pc vulnerable which makes me skittish on that, or update the driver which I'm not sure what software to run to diagnose whats going (recommendations appreciated) as I'm new to this pc gaming world. i looked in device manager and downloaded all necessary updates to no avail and the error keeps popping up. There was a problem installing armoury crate but i reinstalled it and still a pop up. help plz and thank you.

    Hi Nick,

I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

Apologies for any inconvenience you are experiencing. I am happy to help you today.

The driver file is related to control of Dynamic lights aka RGB lights on your device.

Did you look at any optional updates at Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options >Optional updates?

If not, follow the below steps:

I had some Asus software installed, which included an RGB component. I do have an Asus mainboard (ROG Crosshair VIII Formula).

The ene.sys driver was present at various places. C:\Program Files (x86)\ENE\IO\ene.sys (together with ene.exe) - both not offering any kind of good vendor description. In addition, the driver was also present in C:\Windows\System32\drivers, together with an ene.old. ene.exe, nor ene.sys showed up in autoruns64.

So I uninstalled the Asus software with the windows build in uninstaller, but this didn't work, primarily, as the uninstaller didn't really touch the armory crate software (which almost feels like malware).

Anyway. I downloaded the Asus Armory Crate uninstaller here (Choose OS, Expand All, Choose Uninstaller) and got rid of the Asus Armory Crate, as far as I can tell. C:\Program Files (x86)\ENE* folder, and C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ene.sys|ene.old were gone after the Asus Armory Crate uninstall.

    c

One additional benefit of uninstalling the ASUS software. 1/3 of the errors in the systems events are gone:)

Hope that helps, and rely on us for any further inquiries. All the best.

I look forward to your response and am eager to collaborate until we find a solution.

Thanks for the reply. Extremely helpful since we took mostly the same routes to see what’s up, and yea I downloaded all optional updates, tried the troubleshooting part in settings, and I think I scanned the specific file that it displayed on the pop-up and it said there was no problem but when I dug into the system32/ene.sys, exe.sys (etc.) files, yea no details or anything to trace back reliably to any vendor or info for corruption checks or updates and I opened the ene.sys file in word and it just showed mumbo jumbo so pretty sure it’s corrupted. That said, I think I stopped at the windows build uninstaller step when I first ran into the problem, same thing, wild that it’s so integrated like that. I digress, will definitely be proceeding with the uninstalling of the asus software and checking back if there’s anything new or jus more of the same. Thanks again

    Thank you for the reply.

SYS files cannot be opened in Word. This is expected to show mumbo jumbo.

The problem is it is outdated - which is not compatible with new Windows versions.

Let us know how that goes.

    Have a great week.
