Windows 11 "Use Dolby Vision mode check box" is missing

Hi!

I use the ASUS ProArt PA32UCX-K display. This display natively supports Dolby Vision.

However, the implementation of Dolby Vision in Windows 11 is below expectations (the elevated black levels issue is killing me, + the other bugs).

This article says that there is a "Use Dolby Vision mode check box" in settings.

I can't find that checkbox in the settings. Is it still available in Win11 24H2? How can I find it or make it appear in the settings?

Thank you.

    Hello, Victor Moroz

Windows 11 automatically selects the optimal display mode based on the hardware and display capabilities. If your display supports Dolby Vision, the system may default to this mode due to its generally superior visual effects. This may explain why your system defaults to Dolby Vision rather than HDR10 after a reboot. The "Use Dolby Vision mode" option is a manual setting. If this option is unavailable, it may indicate that the system recognizes Dolby Vision as the optimal setting and has applied it automatically.

To test this, you can play content that supports Dolby Vision. If both the display and system correctly enable Dolby Vision, video playback will automatically switch to this mode, and you may notice related prompts or indicators on the display.

If you prefer to manually control this setting, consult the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu of your monitor or the control panel provided by your graphics card to see if options are available to disable Dolby Vision or enforce the use of HDR10. I understand it is essential for users to have the choice to enable or disable Dolby Vision. You can submit feedback to Microsoft through the Windows Feedback Hub, suggesting that they implement additional user control options in future updates, including the ability to manually enable or disable Dolby Vision. To do this, press the Windows logo key + F, which will directly open the Feedback Hub app, allowing you to provide feedback immediately. Yuhao L

    Hello, VictorMoroz

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Have you installed all these 3 apps: Dolby Access, Dolby Vision and Dolby Vision Extensions?

    Thank you for your response.

I had all of the apps installed except the Dolby Vision—Microsoft Store Apps, which is dubbing the Dolby Access functionality in terms of Dolby Vision view condition selection and is designed for laptops. Anyway, I sideloaded and installed it.

Unfortunately, the "Use Dolby Vision mode check box" did not appear in the settings. :(

The rest of the conditions you mentioned my system meets.

Please, note: I want to be able to disable the Dolby Vision desktop mode and work in HDR10 in desktop mode, just like it's said in the article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hdr-settings-in-windows-2d767185-38ec-7fdc-6f97-bbc6c5ef24e6#bkmk_dolby_vision_mode

    Hello, Victor Moroz

I mentioned before that the laptop must be plugged in. Some advanced display features might be disabled when running on battery. Is this laptop on battery or plugged in?

Also, have you updated the graphics drivers from the manufacturer's website?

    I use desktop PC.

All the drivers, and UEFI, and firmware are the most recent.

The PC is powered from the grid.

Yesterday, I updated to the latest NVidia GPU drivers (released yesterday). And right after the driver update, Win 11 switched to the HDR10.

But after I rebooted the PC, it uses Dolby Vision only.

The only way I can turn the HDR10 on is to start the playback of HDR10 video with HDR10 metadata passthrough to the monitor.

But even that causes problems - if I watch that HDR10 video in a player in the windowed mode on desktop - Windows 11 starts to switching between HDR10 and Dolby Vision modes perpetually, until I stop the video playback, and Windows 11 will return to the Dolby Vision-only mode.

That's annoying. The Dolby Vision mode should be optional, not default.
