Canon camera won't connect to Windows 10 PC after reset; shows up as MTP USB Device

Hello, since resetting my ThinkPad P72 with Windows 10, it won't connect to my Canon 60D over USB. It won't show up in file Explorer, and in device manager it shows up as "MTP USB Device". In control panel devices and printers, it shows up under "Unspecified: Canon Digital Camera". On a working PC it shows up as "Canon 60D" in both this and device manager. It used to work with this PC before I reset it, and it also works with another Windows 10 PC. I have tried all ports, using hubs, even different cables but I haven't been able to get it to connect properly. For transferring photos I could just use the SD card, but I need it to connect for remote shooting and Webcam utilities, so I need this to work.

On the PC it works with, I even copied the driver over to the malfunctioning PC and installed it, and it still does not work. This is likely because there is no standalone communication driver for Canon cameras, and they just use generic MTP drivers included with Windows.

Nonetheless, it still won't connect, and I have no idea why, but I do know at the very least that it is a Windows issue. I have confirmed the PC hardware is not faulty (used to work before reset), and that the camera and USB cable is not faulty (works with other PCs). Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks

Hi, I’m Vinay. Thanks for reaching out.

I’m here to help you today.

Try reinstalling drivers by clicking win + X - Select Device Manager - expand camera drivers/portable device - look for MTP USB Device or Canon Digital Camera then right click on those drivers and select Uninstall device then restart the computer to Reinstall drivers automatically.

I hope this resolves your issue! If you have any queries, please let me know.

    Thanks for the reply.

Have you downloaded EOS utility app from canon website ? If not , please download and install it .

Some Canon cameras have a setting to change USB mode (e.g from MTP/PTP to “PC connection” or similar). Check your camera settings menu to see if this option is available and set it to PC connection or a MTP/PTP mode.

Run below commands in command prompt as an administrator

    sfc /scannow

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Reset Windows 10 MTP settings in File Explorer and navigate to C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Transfer Protocol and delete Media Transfer protocol folder then reconnect the camera

Disable any antivirus temporarily and check if it helps
