Windows 11 is showing different DPI value (96) on JPEG images than Windows 10 (300 DPI)

I recently discovered that JPEG images that I am sure have 300 DPI in quality (resolution) suddenly started showing as 96 DPI when opening them in the Photos app. I've also checked the properties (right clicking) on the JPEG file, and there it also shows 96 DPI.

When I open the exact same file on my other laptop that is running on Windows 10, it shows 300 DPI both in Photos app and under file - properties.

I am 100% sure that my Windows 11 laptop also displayed 300 DPI on the JPEGs before so something has happened at some point.

Does anyone have any clue to why this is happening?

PS. When I open the JPEGs in Photoshop, it also shows 300 DPI value.

Hello Daniel EH, welcome to the Microsoft community!

According to your feedback, you are experiencing jepg files showing 300dpi in win10 and 96dpi in win11.

    I apologize for the inconvenience.

I see that you say that the file is still displayed at 300dpi in Photoshop.

I think there is an error in the system reading the file.

    I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

You can report this problem in the link below.

We are seeing exactly the same thing on this. It's fine in Windows 11 23H2, but as soon as you upgrade to 24H2 you get this problem. Not sure what the answer is. I'm guessing its a bug, but be nice to get an answer from Microsoft.
