So as the title suggests, when I ALT+TAB from a game both of my screens go black for about 4-5 seconds and then work normally.

Is anyone else having this issue and if so, is there a solution?

Edition Windows 11 Pro

Version 24H2

Installed on ‎01-‎Sep-‎24

OS build 26100.1591

Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.18.0

Latest NVIDIA drivers 560.94 for MSI GeForce RTX™ 3080 SUPRIM X 10G

Latest BIOS 5404 for Asus ROG Strix B450-F Gaming II

Thank you in advance!

    Hi Jovan Tomic,

    Thanks for choosing Microsoft Community.

In your description, you are experiencing a black screen for a few seconds while using Alt + Tab.

If you can, please provide me with a screenshot or take a picture of the black screen you are experiencing so that we can determine the problem for you.

I note that you have used the latest drivers and installed the latest BIOS. thank you for the effort you have put into resolving this issue, and I do understand that the current situation is frustrating.

Did you have more windows open or a lot of tasks running when you had this problem?

Please open Task Manager by tapping Esc + Shift + Ctrl at the same time to see if the system is currently using more system resources (CPU, GPU, RAM, Hard Disk usage), if so, please reduce some unnecessary tasks to lighten the burden on the system and then check if the same problem occurs.

If you have this problem during normal system usage, it could be an error in your graphics card driver, please try to reinstall the corresponding driver or use an older version.

You can also refer to some of the steps below

    Adjust NVIDIA Control Panel Settings

    1. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel:
    • Right-click on your desktop and select “NVIDIA Control Panel”.
    1. Manage 3D Settings:
    • Go to Manage 3D Settings.
    • Under the Global Settings tab, set the Preferred Graphics Processor to High Performance NVIDIA Processor.
    1. Configure G-Sync:
    • If G-Sync is enabled, please try temporarily disabling it to see if that solves the problem.

    Try Full Screen Optimization

    1. Locate the game's executable file:
    • Navigate to the game's installation folder and right-click on the executable file (.exe).
    1. Disable full screen optimization:
    • Select Properties > Compatibility tab.
    • Check the “Disable full-screen optimization” checkbox.

At the same time, this may be caused by some third-party software conflicts. To troubleshoot this possibility, I recommend trying a clean boot which starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It can be used to determine whether a background service or program is interfering or causing a problem.

These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by-step.

Please test the clean boot with minimal software to see if the same problem occurs.

I noticed that your current system version is 24H2, Microsoft has not officially launched this version yet, and the already launched 23H2 currently has more stability, please backup your data and try to roll back to 23H2, if you can't, please refer to the following link for a clean install of your system (installing version 23H2)

    Windows 11 Clean Installation (microsoft.com)

Disclaimer: At this point, we have exhausted all troubleshooting and I recommend that we try to perform a clean install to get your computer back into a Please ensure that you backup any important data, including Documents, Pictures, Videos, and more.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

    Hi,

It seems that this is a widespread issue with Windows 11 24H2 for example:

Anyone else experience black screen when Alt+Tab to get out of fullscreen game window (not when getting back in) ever since 24H2? : r/WindowsHelp (reddit.com)

Another users experience: Win11 24H2: Black screen ALT+TAB Out (no issues on 23H2) (youtube.com)

This is from my perspective, I have attached an image of my NVIDIA settings and videos that display the issue: https://imgur.com/a/1UQUpPy

    Hi Jovan Tomic.

Thank you for your reply. I understand that there are many other users who are experiencing this problem. Thank you for trying to find a solution to this problem and for providing me with the relevant links, your efforts deserve to be recognized for a quality that goes beyond most users.

Currently, 24H2 is still a preview version of the system, it was released for the purpose of allowing users to find problems in their experience and give feedback to the development team for improvement.

In the link you provided, it seems that some people have no problem when using just the Intel integrated graphics and it appears when using the Nvidia graphics, please right click on Start, select Device Manager, find the display adapter, and then temporarily disable your discrete graphics and use just the integrated graphics to see if you have the same problem.

If the problem still exists, Microsoft attaches great importance to user experience, you can submit your ideas and suggestions through the Feedback Hub, and the development team will regularly review submissions for ideas or fixes.

Please share the feedback link here after submitting as it will allow others on the forum to vote for your submission, including me. More votes will lead to more visibility and higher priority to the development team.

Of course, you can also refer to the previous replies and go back to 23H2 for now after backing up your data.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

    Best regards,

    HI Jovan Tomic.

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand that this issue also occurs in Windows 11 Pro 24H2.

Thank you for trying different system versions and trying to resolve this issue. I do understand your frustration in still having the problem after multiple attempts.

Currently 24H2 is still a preview system, it is not an official release and has some instabilities while in the stage of gathering possible issues. Please refer to my previous reply for feedback and provide me with a link to the feedback.

Also, please use version 23H2 for now to avoid this issue.

Thank you for your understanding and support.
