Windows 11 Power Troubleshooter Missing

Since purchasing my Dell AiO Inspiron 24-3455, which came loaded with Windows 11, I have had power problems. Even though the power settings are set to Balanced power mode and to go to sleep after 15 minutes, sometimes the PC stays on for hours (including overnight) and sometimes it shuts down sooner than 15 minutes. The motherboard was replaced under warranty but the problems continue.

So I tried to find the Power troubleshooter in System settings -- it's not there. It's not under Other troubleshooters, The only Other troubleshooters listed are Background Intelligent Transfer Service, Bluetooth, Camera, Program Compatibility Troubleshooter, Video Playback, and Windows Media Player. The Most Frequent troubleshooters listed are Audio, Network and Internet, Printer and Windows Update.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this? Or should I just yield to Windows' flakiness and stop worrying about it?

Hi, and thanks for reaching out. My name is Bernard a Windows fan like you. I'll be happy to help you out today.

This problem actually occurs when there is a problem with your power options, kindly follow the steps below and I hope this helps.

Method 1. Restore default power options

-Press the Windows key + R then type:

    powercfg -restoredefaultschemes

    -Restart the PC and check.

    Method 2. Run power troubleshooter

    • Press the Windows key + R then type:

    msdt.exe /id PowerDiagnostic

    • Click OK then follow the prompts to run the power troubleshooter

    -Restart the device after

    Method 3.

Open Control Panel> Click Hardware and Sound > Click Power Options> then click Choose what the power buttons do > Click Change settings that are currently unavailable> Check Sleep (or uncheck then check it again)

    Click Save Changes then restart.

    Method 4. Do clean boot:

A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program.

    • In the search box on the taskbar, type msconfig and select System Configuration from the results.
    • On the Services tab of System Configuration, select Hide all Microsoft services, and then select Disable all.
    • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select Open Task Manager.
    • Under Startup in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then select Disable.
    • Close Task Manager.
    • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select OK. When you restart the computer, it's in a clean boot environment.

FYI... Method 2 yielded the following information: "Windows Online Troubleshooting Service is not enabled for this version of Windows. {This version being Windows 11 Home.} Troubleshooters have been moved and this tool will be retired." Be useful if MS notified people about this and didn't include instructions for how to find the Power troubleshooter that are inaccurate!

Method 1 did restore the default settings, one of which (Balanced Power Mode) was already in use. Now I just have to wait and see if the PC randomly stays on past the set time or not.

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

    Power troubleshooter:

    msdt.exe -id PowerDiagnostic

    Hardware and devices:

    msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic

    Windows update:

    msdt.exe -id WindowsUpdateDiagnostic

Hi, thanks for replying, and no worries Methods 1,3, and 4 should sort out the issue, no worries, for method 2, the developers are looking into that.

Unfortunately, after the latest update, the default power settings no longer work. While the screen does go black, the PC never turns off.
