I don't understand why you call it a core component of the OS ?
It's listed as a Windows App on my laptop !
Surely that can be safely uninstalled ?
From my "digging around", this app is not required for "Windows". It is a support framework used by other apps, such as "Phone Link / Your Phone".
Because CrossDevice is installed as part of Windows, applications you install may expect it to be available, and they might have strange problems that are not apparently caused by this missing component.
I see no value in removing this item. It uses only 58MB of disk space and typically has no processes running.
In general, apps that cannot be launched from the store are support apps and should be left alone. This is even more true if the app cannot be uninstalled via the store. There are lots of exceptions, of course :)
does this work with iPhone too ?
