PC restarts randomly (mostly while gaming)

Hi there,

I've been having issues with my ~4 year old PC, which has begun randomly restarting. It happens at seemingly random intervals, primarily while playing games (albeit that is what I use the PC for). I first thought it was something related to overheating, but after installing HWinfo, I am unsure if that is the case. I have tried reinstalling Windows - even after formatting my system drive.

I've tried to extract my systemlog: systemlog.evtx

Would really appreciate any ideas on what could be wrong, I am hardly a PC expert!

Thank you.

    Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue!

Looks like you haven't received an answer that's solved your problem. I believe this will help:

    Check for Overheating:

Use a monitoring tool like HWinfo to check your CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming. If temperatures are too high (above 85°C for CPU and GPU), you might need to clean your PC, improve airflow, or reapply thermal paste.

    Power Supply Issues:

A failing PSU can cause random restarts. If possible, try using a different power supply to see if the issue persists.

    Memory Problems:

Run a memory test using Windows Memory Diagnostic or Memtest86 to check for RAM issues.

    Driver Updates:

Ensure all your drivers are up to date, especially your GPU and chipset drivers.

    Check for Software Conflicts:

Perform a clean boot to see if a background application is causing the issue. Instructions for a clean boot can be found here.

    Event Viewer:

Check Windows Event Viewer for any critical errors or warnings that occur around the time of the restarts. This can give you more insight into the cause.

    Check for BIOS Updates:

Ensure your BIOS is up to date. Sometimes, BIOS updates can resolve stability issues.

Please let me know if this does not work or if you've tried this already. I have another possible solution to try after this one.

Let me know if I can help you further!

    Best regards,

    Gyula H.
