Hi Bradford, I am John J.D., a fellow Microsoft user like you.

I understand your frustration, and I'm here to help. There don't seem to be any known updates affecting the Power Options settings in the Control Panel. Is that the section you're looking at?

You can enable the Hibernate option by going to the Control Panel. Here are the steps:

    > Press Search, type "control panel," and select it from the results.

    > Select "System and Security."

    > In the Power Options section, select "Change what the power buttons do."

    > Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable."

    > Check the box next to "Hibernate" to enable it.

    > Click "Save changes."

When you follow these steps, do you see the option to enable Hibernate?

If not, could you attach a screenshot in your next response?

    John J.D.

Found the answer myself, and it was down to me thinking "Settings" was the same as "Control Panel"

    IT'S NOT!

    So starting from:

    > Press Search, type "control panel," and select it from the results.
    > Select "System and Security." If there is one. If like me you find no "System and Security" option! then just do a control panel search (top right hand corner of the window) for "change what the power buttons do". You only have to type "change wha" before the results are filtered to what you want.
    > In the Power Options section, select "Change what the power buttons do." ****
    > Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable."
    > Check the box next to "Hibernate" to enable it. You can also set up your device so it will "Hibernate" on "Closing the lid" and or "Pressing the button" for both battery and plugged-in power options.
    > Click "Save changes."

Why make it so hard Microsoft?

There doesn't appear to be a way of getting to these options from "Settings" so how are users supposed to know where to go to set which particular thing?

This whole Settings/Control Panel thing needs sorting out!

If you cannot enable Windows 11 hibernation mode via the power options, you may be missing the hibernation file. In that case, the “Hibernate” option wouldn’t even appear in the Power Options.

    Run "Command Prompt" “as administrator

    Type and then enter

    powercfg /hibernate on

    Type and then enter

    powercfg /h /type full

Copy Now, you should now find “Hibernate” displayed in the Power Options.

For those who are still unable to enable the option on power button in latest Win11 build: the option is now at a different location in Control Panel:

In Settings, press Search, type "control panel," and select it from the results.
In the Power Options section, select Change what the power buttons do
Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
Check the box next to Hibernate to enable it.
    Click "Save changes.
