    Hello, John Nayar

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

Thank you for your feedback. Transferring all data and applications from an old Windows PC to a new Windows PC can be accomplished in a number of ways. Here are a few common methods:

    Method 1:

Open the Control Panel and select System and Security.

    Select “Backup and Restore”.

Click “Set up a backup” and follow the wizard to complete the backup process and save the backup to an external hard disk or network location.

On the new computer, connect the backup device.

Open the Control Panel and select “System and Security”.

    Select “Backup and Restore”.

Click “Restore My Files” and follow the wizard to complete the restore process.

    Method 2:

    Use third-party software

Due to the community limitations, I can't give you specific software, you can search for it on the search engine.

    Method 3:

    Manual Transfer

    1. Use an external hard disk or USB drive

    Copy data:

Connect an external hard disk or USB drive to the old computer.

Copy the files and folders you need to the external device.

    Transfer data:

Connect an external hard disk or USB drive to the new computer.

Copy files and folders to the appropriate location on the new computer.

    Set up a network share:

On the old computer, right-click on the folder you want to share and select “Properties”.

Go to the “Sharing” tab, click “Share” and follow the wizard to set up sharing.

    Access the shared folder:

On the new computer, open File Explorer and enter the network address of the old computer (e.g. \ old computer name or IP address).

Access the shared folder and copy the files to the new computer.

    Method 4:

    Use OneDrive

    Upload files:

On the old computer, install and sign in to the cloud storage service.

Upload files and folders to cloud storage.

On the new computer, install and sign in to the same cloud storage service.

Download files and folders to the new computer.

Back up your folders with OneDrive - Microsoft Support

Please let me know if you encounter any problems during backup and restore.

    Best Regards,

    Aaron| Microsoft Community Support Specialist

Apps cannot be transferred - they need to be reinstalled.

The easiest and fastest way to transfer your data is to use an external hard drive:

1- Copy the folders to the external hard drive.

2- Move the folders to the same locations on the new computer.

    Hi!

If the application software is unavailable or out of date how can application software currently on the old computer be transfer to the new computer. There may be multiple application software that need transferring.

In WIN 10, there is no Security option under System and no "Backup and Restore" option.

SO not sure what he is talking about, I wish it was that easy, once again something that worked in the older version of windows that is all f'ed up in this one.

This is a a major gap in your ecosystem support. Y'all need to provide an integrated, native toolset to migrate an installed OS with programs and applications from an existing device to a new one.
