    Hi Paramita,

I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

You can restore it using Windows recovery environment. Make it using the following instructions:

Do I guess correctly that you want to restore an image that was originally made with Backup and Restore (Windows 7)? If so: To do that, you first have to reinstall Windows. Then, you run B&R from the fresh copy of Windows and restore your backup.

In that case, the instructions you were previously given are actually correct. They show you how to create a Windows installer, and are basically a paraphrase of Microsoft's website. Boot your computer from the installer and the install will begin automatically. Keep in mind that this erases your hard drive, so please backup anything you don't want to lose.

Once you have reinstalled Windows, run B&R to restore your image.

P.S. With a commercial product, you can restore an image without first needing to reinstall Windows.
