System Restore in WIN10 keeps losing retsore points

Question

How do I control System Restore in WIN10? System Restore use to be a very good tool years ago for computer repair and support, but now isn't very useful.

I have set aside a sizable amount of space for restore points but they keep disappearing without my intervention. How do I set it up so I can control when restore points are removed. For example, I was away for a couple of weeks and came back to some more Microsoft Tuesday Update issues. I looked at system restore a few days ago and there were 3-4 points including one for Feb 4th. Then today there is just one from August of 2023 and the show more points is greyed out.

With all the problems with updates now I really need to be able to use system restore until or if the problems are fixed.

Ravi, There is no such "Turn off Protection" tab in Windows 10. It only has enable or disable options. Please be precise when guding people.

There can be many reasons. Let's troubleshoot it.

>> Repair Corrupted System Files using SFC.

You can run SFC Scan by following these steps:

1). On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R key at the same time to invoke the Run box.

2). Type cmd and press Shift+Ctrl+Enter together on your keyboard to open Command Prompt in the administrator mode.

3). Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. Then wait until the verification is 100% complete.

4). Restart your computer

>> Disable System Restore and Then Enable It.

1). Right-click on This PC and choose properties.

2). Click on the System Protection tab.

3). Click on the Configure button.

4). In the Restore Settings, you will see an option asking you to Turn off system protection.

5). Apply all changes.

Hi : Why do my System keep losing retore points,.?

System Restore needs a certain amount of disk space. lf the size of old restore

points, exceeded the value you set. They'll be automatically deleted to

make room for new ones. This - disk usage - section is perhaps the

source of the problem, that restores points have gone nowhere.

Some fixes to try on . Are the followings

Fix 1 : Enable System Restore.

Fix 2 : increase the disk space usage.

Fix 3 : Start Volume Shadow Service.

Fix 4 : Change triggers in SR properties.

Fix 5 : Run system file checker.
