Why doesn't Phone Link support RCS?

The only way you can send RCS messages through Microsoft Phone Link is by having a Samsung phone that's set to use the Samsung Messages app and allowed to use RCS in that app by your carrier. That's completely ridiculous in 2024. RCS is not a new thing or special feature anymore, it's a basic texting technology that over 1 billion people use now through Google Messages and even Apple is going to adopt in iOS 18; if Microsoft wants anyone to care about Phone Link, they should've added real support for it a long time ago. They're probably losing a lot of ground to messages.google.com because of this.

Been asking this question all over the place (Reddit, Windows Central, other MS websites...) and nobody seems to have an answer??

Who, if anyone, at MS is even working on this? or does anyone at Samsung know since their phones seem more tightly integrated with Phone Link?

For the time being use Android messages website from your computer. You can PIN thus as a local app.

The only thing I've noticed is you cannot scheduled texts (useful for next morning to avoid disturbing people in the middle of the night).

    Bottom line question:

When will Phone Link support full (or even partial) RCS functionality with Google Messages/Samsung Galaxys/Windows?

If not high quality photos and videos, at least give us group texting and emoji responses first...

Does anyone know of a workaround?

Reply through the notification that pops up on your PC and not through the app. That tends to work for me, but you still can't send high quality images.

Phone Link has been working fine with the original Samsung Messages app and SMS (a couple of my contacts send messages in RCS but not enough for me to have noticed any differences).

I recently tried switching to Google Messages with RCS because my Galaxy S23+ started bugging me to do so...and it totally broke Phone Link. Tried switching back to Samsung Messages but nothing would sync with Phone Link.

Only after a PC reboot did it start syncing again (and back on SMS only).

So do we know when Phone Link will fully support Google Messages and RCS?

Personally, I mostly use the Signal app to communicate with contacts. Only the few holdouts who still use SMS do I even use texting for.
