  • Windows 10 Pro x64 (ALL UPDATES) + Windows 11 Pro x64 (ALL UPDATES)
  • full system crash : screen goes blank, audio stutters for approx. 5 seconds then cuts off completely, the only thing you can do is push the reset button on the PC case (NO BSOD info the the screen remains blank)
  • after rebooting I can find the following event in the event viewer :
    • event ID 56 : "The description for Event ID 56 from source Application Popup cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer. ACPI 15 The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table)"
  • system info :

CPU : AMD Threadripper 1950X

motherboard : Asus ROG Zenith Extreme

RAM : 8x 16GB G.Skill DDR4-2132 F4-2933C14-16GTZRX

GPU : Asus Radeon Vega64 Strix

storage :

  • 4x 3.5" SATA HDD WD Red 10TB SATA 3.5"
  • 1x NVMe M.2 SSD Samsung 960 Pro 2TB
  • 1x NVMe M.2 SSD Samsung 970 EVO 2TB
  • 1x NVMe M.2 SSD Corsair Force MP510 2TB
  • 1x 2.5" SATA SSD Crucial MX500 2TB
  • 1x 5.25" BluRay ODD LG GGW-H20L

I have been experiencing this crash for several years now (since 2018), sometimes I can get by a couple of days without a crash, but in the worst cases I get 5-6 crashes in a time frame of about 9~10 hours. Sometimes it takes hours after bootup, sometimes it crashes after just a couple of minutes booted to desktop.

The same type of crash (Threadripper systems crashing, event 56 ACPI 15) has been reported MULTIPLE times already is is known for OVER 5 YEARS already.

I tried almost everything that you can find on the internet to remedy this issue, NOTHING WORKS.

So in case you haven't realized it yet : THIS IS SERIOUS AND THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED RIGHT AWAY.

I want the following : Microsoft provide in this thread a URL to a debug program (for both Windows 10 & 11) that I can download and run to gather more data. Once this data has been collected it needs to be forwarded to microsoft for extensive analysis.

I have read a comment somewhere online (don't remember where) that Windows Server editions also have this crash and in Windows Server it would point to a problem with NVMe disks. So maybe it's a good idea to search there first ?

(22/11/2023, approx. 00:10 Hrs) Just experienced another full system Win11 Pro 22H2 crash, exact same crash details as detailed in the 1st post of this thread, event viewer posts the same most likely useless crash error information as always :

    Text :

The description for Event ID 56 from source Application Popup cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

    ACPI

    15

The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table

    XML :

    <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">

MICROSOFT : PLEASE PROVIDE A DEBUGGING PROGRAM THAT I CAN DOWNLOAD AND RUN TO COLLECT AND SEND PROPER DETAILED CRASH INFORMATION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sumit, if you would have taken the time to actually read everything I posted thoroughly then you would have realized how useless your response is because I included information from the event viewer so I KNOW how it works. And event viewer doesn't produce enough information to analyze.

And as for your comment about the issue not being "widespread" : why don't you google it, you'd figure out that this isn't an isolated incident and that a lot of people have already experienced this type of bug since 2018 or earlier. And how is it that microsoft still hasn't figured this out after more than 5 years ??? This community contains MULTIPLE posts from different people reporting the very same issue, but nothing that has been suggested works.

This issue has been known to happen in Windows 10 and 11 (ALL updates) on AMD Threadripper systems, including generation 1 Threadrippers (19xx series) like mine.

What I need is a debugging program that I can download and install on my PC so that it can log DETAILED information to figure out what is actually happening. Event Viewer isn't capable of doing this.

    Hi Yves,

I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

There are no widespread issues like that.

To better understand the issue, Please see the article below on how to share System logs.
