Do you use OneDrive for backup or sync on your computer?

From the situation you described, it appears that having folder backup enabled caused the photos to sync to the cloud instead of being saved locally.

If you can, log into OneDrive to see if there is a photo folder.

    Hi YEUNG,
    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your photos disappearing. It can be frustrating when important files go missing. Here are some steps you can take to try to resolve the issue:

    1. Search for the Files: Use the built-in Windows search function to look for your missing photos. Press the Windows key and start typing the name of a photo or a keyword related to the photos you're looking for. Windows will search your entire system for matching files.
    2. Use Command Prompt: You can try using Command Prompt to check if your photos are still there. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and navigate to your "Pictures" folder using the cd command. Then use the dir command to list the contents of the folder. cd C:\Users\Ian\Pictures dir This will show you a list of files and folders in the "Pictures" directory.
    3. Check the Folder Permissions: The error message you mentioned could be related to folder permissions. Right-click on the "Pictures" folder, go to "Properties," then the "Security" tab. Make sure your user account has the necessary permissions to access the folder. You might need to take ownership of the folder if necessary.
    4. Run Disk Check: It's possible that your SSD might have some errors. You can run a disk check to scan for and repair any potential issues with your SSD. To do this:
      • Open a Command Prompt with administrative privileges (right-click on the Start button and select "Command Prompt (Admin)").
      • Type chkdsk /f /r and press Enter.
      • You might need to restart your computer for the disk check to begin.

Disclaimer: Running chkdsk can check the file system and file system metadata of a volume for logical and physical errors. To avoid any trouble for you, do not cancel or interrupt chkdsk, and back up important data.

    1. Safe mode starts Windows in a basic state, using a limited set of files and drivers. If a problem doesn't happen in safe mode, this means that default settings and basic device drivers aren't causing the issue. Observing Windows in safe mode enables you to narrow down the source of a problem, and can help you troubleshoot problems on your PC. Start your PC in safe mode in Windows - Microsoft Support

If you suspect that the issue might be related to your SSD's health, you might want to run diagnostic tools provided by the SSD manufacturer.

I hope this helps.  If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely

Hahn - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
