WIndows 10 21H2 - Dictation - "Something Went Wrong" Error

Dictation (WIN+H) works ok while in the desktop version of Word 365, but not in anything else, like web apps.

We can use the microphone icon in Google search while in Chrome, but we receive a "Something Went Wrong.  Please try again later" error while using Windows dictation.

The microphone is not the issue, as it works in other applications.

This was working last week, so I'm assuming a Microsoft update broke it?  Any ideas how to fix it or when the bug will be fixed?

    Regards,

Hi, the microphone is working just fine in the desktop version of Word, while in Teams, and even when using the Google Search by Voice function.

Yes, I've run all Updates, except for an optional update for a Lexmark printer I don't have.

Yes, we are signed in to our M365 accounts, and we have tried on multiple computers with multiple user accounts that are all valid.

Yes, the microphone is functioning correctly.

Try it yourself: Win + H, and start speaking. See if you get the error, too.

Thank you for your reply and information.

I am sorry that the processes followed earlier did not work and thank you for your cooperation. Unfortunately, I don't have any more troubleshooting to offer.

There are many experienced users active on the forum and I hope someone can offer more information about your issue.

    Sincerely,

Hello I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

    1. If you know when this started, See if you can System Restore to a point before this started. System Restore is a time machine that takes you back to a point where Windows was working correctly: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-r...

If the problem repeats then System Restore again or uninstall any Updates that were just installed in Settings > Windows Update > Update History, restart Windows and immediately block those Updates as shown here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8280-hide-s...

    1. What has worked for some with this error is to try a new Local Admin account: https://www.isumsoft.com/windows-10/3-ways-to-c...

If that resolves it then you can move your files over, then when ready change your old account to a Local Account in Settings > Accounts > Your Info > Sign in with a Local Account Instead, or delete it. This will free up your MS Account email address to be added to the new account at Settings > Accounts > Your Info > Sign in with a Microsoft Account Instead.

    1. if that doesn't work then Go over Windows 10 using this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back, I will have other suggestions if necessary.
